Sisters of the Vine - Ladies Ministry

What is "Sisters of the Vine?"

We are a part of the body of Christ. We will show love in deed and truth if we will stay full of the Holy Ghost. Love and compassion for one another and for the lost is a direct and automatic result of the Holy Spirit within. In other words, where the Spirit is, the fruit will be evident. We are here to assist our Pastor in meeting the needs of the body of Christ.

What is the purpose?

We want to have a plan in place to handle the harvest that God is sending. We seek to have the spirit of a servant. Galatians 6:10 states, "As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith." Jesus said, "But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant." In meeting the physical needs if people, we are also ministering to the spiritual needs of the people. It has been said, "People do not care how much you know until they know how much you care." When the Lord sends hundreds, we want to be prepared to minister to their needs.

What is the need?

Assisting with the needs of the church so that the Pastor can spend time in prayer, in the Word, and ministering as the Lord leads them. Many things are different now than they were 30 to 40 years ago. Most ladies work outside the home, but our basic need have not changed. People still need soup when they are sick and our children need our blessings as they wed and setup their own households.

In the old testament God told Moses that he would put His spirit on the 70 elders who would help him minister to the people in Numbers 11:17. In Acts 6:1-4 the apostles chose men "of honest report and full of the Holy Ghost" to minister to the needs of the people so they could spend time in the Word and prayer. The organizing of events, such as baby showers and meals for funerals, should be the responsibility of the church family instead of the Pastor. The process of delegation is a blessing. The plan is in place and we will all take our turn carrying out the plan. As written in Acts 20:35, "It is more blessed to give than to receive."

Who are we?

Every lady, as they come into the church, will be gradually assigned to a team. Not every lady will participate in everything that her team does, but someone will be in contact with them to make sure they are included in what is happening at the church.

What do we do?

We help hurting families during sorrow, encourage overburdened moms so they can get what they need from church services, and support one another in times of need. This includes:

  • Dinners provided for families whey they lose a loved one
  • Baby showers
  • Wedding showers
  • Nursery services for young mothers
  • Hospital and shut-in visitations

How does it work?

There are teams that rotate on a biweekly basis. When a need arises, the captain of the team will be notified and given the plan for meeting the need. It is then up to the team captain and her team to implement the plan.

All ladies in the church are divided up and placed on teams. This prevents the load of duties from falling on the same group of ladies each time. For example, instead of the same two or three ladies decorating for every shower, we will be able to find and utilize new talent as each team searches for two or three ladies from their team to decorate. The same example works for cooking, helping in the nursery, visitation, etc. With rotation, the load is shared and we all have the opportunity to be blessed by helping others.
